Majja started after a year of research and travel to find and support lesser-known crafts that need attention at grass root level for artisans to continue their craft and rely on their skills for their livelihoods. Mohana, founder of majja is a textile designer from Tamil Nadu. She started Majja in 2024. Before this, she worked at RaasLeela Textiles for three years, which changed her perspective on working with artisans and built her foundation on how thoughtful design interventions can bring about a change in artisans’ lives.

Majja focuses on creating simple, well-researched, and thoughtfully crafted ideas that are enjoyable for artisans and interesting for the wearer, while preserving the integrity of traditional craftsmanship and focusing on the unique skills of individual artisans.
